"Because. I have a boyfriend! I can't ask boys for their number!"

Chloe sat on her bed and wondered what was going on with her friend. She sometimes worried about Laura.
There were rumors about Mike around school. Rumors about him and other girls.

After reading this, I figured that Laura was very nieve. This made me predict that her boyfriend Mike is going to go off with another girl in the end. Reading some of their interactions I felt as if their relationship was strange, like the time when Mike had sex with her and she did not even want to, and she felt as if she had to pretend, that she was into it. Also, I found it rude, for Mike to tell Laura that he did not want to hang around with her old friend Chloe. Even though Chloe is known as an outcast, she is her friend and Mike should respect that she wanted her to come with them. Instead all Mike did was talk about how he wanted to party.

"Mike doesn't own you. You can talk to other people."
page 59

Laura seem to be a girl that listen to her boyfriend way too. SHe seem more like a traditional type of girl. Makeing Mike seem powerful. Everyone around her can see that Mike seem to own her including herself, but she is just indenial

After reading the part when Laura talked about how many time she and her boyfriend(Mike) have sex just seem like he is with her for sex. On page 16 "Act sexy, for your boyfriend" It seem as though she has to do her best to try to satisfied him. I think that is something very stupid to do because to my point of view when you are with someone then no matter what you do it will make your partner satisfy. Also it's stupid how she has sex with him even though she didn't really want to. When you are with someone then you should have honesty.

"Chloe made her own Chloe- esque statement by scowling alot, hiding behind her hair, and dressing herself in the most random outfits imaginable."

Chloe seem to be more of an original than a person whom follow the trend of all teenage girl. She is herself and not care what other people think. She hangs out with the people whom is kinda like her people that just isn't catergorize.

After reading about Chloe, it seem as though something that happen in her life that made her change into the person she is now. On page 18 "You know how she is now. She won't do anything normal." In this quote it say that now she isn't the girl that Laura use to hang out with in grade school. Now Chloe is a person whom is abnormal. Also on page 33 "He did not want to hope too much, but the joy spreading through him was obvious. Maybe his daughter was coming back." After hearing the news of Chloe going to prom her dad seem to be over joy with happiness. He was happy to know for once out of a really long time his daughter is finally doing something that other teenage girl would do. He missed his daughter. The daughter that used to be normal, before something that changed her. Why might Chloe changed??

Danielle I agreed with your blog, because as we read on it gives us many example of how bad Mike treats Laura. It seem as though he only cares about himself. On page 16 "It was like he was in his own little world lately." That just proves how much he cares about himself because if you go out with someone it should be caring about both of the people in the relationship not just yourself.

began to read Prom Anonymous, so far I think that it is great. The whole idea of the prom and the preparations is fasicnating to me. So far a couple of ideas that i have come up with love, curiosity, jealousy, obsession.

I think that all three of the main characters are facing different problems.

Laura is dealing with her boyfriend who doesn't seem to be paying as much attention to her unless they are having sex. She tries to ignore the fact that she is having much attention being paid to her by keeping her self busy with finding Chloe a date. She appears to be running away from the truth.

Jace likes Paul alot but hes a little strange. He has many problems that he lays on her and I she doesn't seem ready enough to handle them. I predict that she will regret asking him to the prom because of his problems with crowded areas, although she does seem to be sensitive to his needs.

Lastly Chloe is obsessed with her new prom date, but I wonder her real reason for going to prom. Is this just a last attempt at being a normal teenager, is she just doing it for her parents, or for herself. I also think that she needs to drop that friend Shawnie because she is only discouraging her. I feel somewht sorry for her because I think that she is trying to find her place in the world and shes confused on what to do with herself. Her poetry seems to help relieve her of that stress.

Just passing though, I have to state that I hate prom. I hate prom with unbelievable zeal.

As I've been reading its come to my attention that I think that all though Chloe is the one that doesn't want to actually go to prom she is the only one that is the most comfortable with her own self. Shes content with the fact that she has a different outlook on life than most people and that makes her happy in her own way. She is only looked upon as an outsider becasue she has very different views. Yet I hope that her attempt at being a "normal: teenager and getting drunk and a complete fool of herself doesn't put a damper on her ida for prom.

Jace is struggling a little but I think that her and Paul just might be okay at prom. Even though she found out that he has problems with large crowds, I beleive that she is the sensitive kind of person that would cater to him and help him in anyway that she can. Although if he keeps shutting down like he did the first night he told her about his problems there maybe trouble.

I think the character with the most internal conflcit is Laura. Just to agree with both Danielle and Vivian she seems to be letting her boyfriend run her life. Yet she wants freedom at the same time. Also Danielle is defiently right when she says that Laura is nieve about Mike. Yet you can tell that she likes Ryan from the pet store. She says "And he was, like, really sweet and really... I don't know. It doesn't see, fair."(57) Here its alsmot as if she realizes that there are other boys out there that are nice and sweet and its not fair that she goes out with a loser. I'm eager to see if maybe she chanes her mind on who she goes to prom with. She also should stop preocuping herself with other people's problems and focus on her own.

"Laura was sorry she had mentioned the bra. She should have waited and let him find out for himself. That would be the cool way to do it. That's what Marianne or Christine would have done."

Laura criticizes Marianne and Christine about them getting popular by doing "bad things," and yet here she wants to be like them. Laura says one thing, and does another. She needs to figure out what she wants to do, including the whole situation with Ryan, and Mike.

I just wanted to also add, that I think Chloe has a very mature view on sex. Laura had sex with Mike as if was a daily routine, and she wasn't even into it, well on the other hand Chloe spoke of how "you could never go back," and forget the people that you slept with because they "form a line in your soul." This shows that even though Chloe may be less experienced, making her in a sense "less mature," than Laura she is actually more educated, and aware.

I don't think that Laura realizes that by trying to get Mike's attention by dressing "sexy" is not healthy. If your boyfriend is not paying attention to you when you are dressed nice and not slutty than he doesn't really love you like he claims you do. Also Laura is being a hypocrit becasue she says stuff about Marianne and Christine being and looking slutty when she herself is trying that image. Also by her buying the dress for $349 and trying to make everything perfect I think that she is trying the to make the Prom live up to her expectations that just might be to high. She seems like she is headed for a big disappointment. Expecially seeing as she lost her virginity the year before on her first prom.

Chloe is really starting to love thie whole prom scene. I also think that the dress she picked out was perfect for her. It was "simple" but that is what makes Chloe her. The dress refelcts her personality. Also that red baret seems like one of those security things for example the red hat in "A Catcher in the Rye". She brings it with her everywhere. Superman has his cape and Batman has Robin and Chloe has her Red Baret.

I think that laura is trying to be perfect, but the reader can tell that she isn't. Laura is trying to lead a "perfect" life with her "perfect boyfriend". She wants prom to be "perfect", but she can not have that. Laura seems too quick to judge people like Abby who she judges based on the fact that she " wore miniskirts and fishnets and lots of makeup. She had slept with one of the punk boys from Muzik Express and bragged about it to everyone." Laura says that Abby is not her "type". This makes Laura seem like a snobby girl. I think she feels that she is above everyone else just because she seems to lead a perfect happy life. My prediction is that I think that Mike will cheat on Laura with another girl which will send Laura's "perfect" relationship crashing down.

I agree with Annie. I think that Chloe's dress represents her very well. It is a simple dress that no one else has. It may not catch your eye at first because it is a plain color, but when you take a good look, you realize how good it looks. This is similar to Chloe because she doesn't catch the eyes of people around her, but when people actually get to know her, they realize what a great person she is. I predict that Chloe will open up as a person at prom, and she will finally take off that stupid red barette that she seems to hide behind and live in the past with.

And to mention something about Jace... If i met a boy that couldn't be around crowds of people, i don't think I'd be able to always be looking out for him and helping him forever. It seems to tiring and bothersome. I think that Jace may be wasting her time, and Paul might only think of her as a friend, or even if he likes her, he wouldn't want a girlfriend.

What do you guys think? Would you keep trying with a guy that used to be in a mental asylum and is now freakishly afraid of crowds?

danielleeeee said...

To answer on Steph's comment, No I would not go out with a guy like Paul, or someone in a similar situation. I would not go out with them mostly because of all the gossip, and insecurities I would have to face, and overcome.

To make a prediction about Paul and Jace, I think that Paul will break it off with her because she is obsessed with, and over analyzes Paul's situation. Paul is easy going, and seems as if he is just trying to get over his past, well all Jace can do is focus on it.

Sorry you guys my internet havent been working quite well but now that it is i just want to umm.. reply to the blogs that you guys posted and some other things that i realize as i read

Laura seem to be more mature and wants every body see that her life is life pure perfection. In the beginning when she was having sex with Mike it already seem like something wasn't right about there realationship. It was like she was with him just to complete her perfect life. But since Ryan came along that day she couldn't stop thinking about him. On page 97 "Laura look up with annoyance, but her face changed instantly, It was Ryan." Laura knows that Ryan like her and she seem to like him too but just indenial about it. I think she thinks that she is such a perfect girl and believe that its wrong to liked someone when she already has a boy friend. She wants everything to be right and everything to go right. She sometimes seem have so much pressure of what people thinks. She quoted on page 107 "He get an eyeful on Friday." why should she try so hard to impress her boy friend? If he really love her like he say he does then wouldn't he like her for the person she is not for the person she not?

Out of the three girls i think that Jace is the girl that don't have that much worries or stress over her looks, or popularities, or anything other than Paul. Paul doesn't seem to be so hard to deal with just that it seem to me that he is clastaphobic???!!!

To response to Stephanie's question. I think I would put up with a guy like that because I believe that any one can over come anything if there's a person that support them, and so far it seem like she trying really hard to give him that support so i think it will work out with Jace and Paul.

I predict that Paul will finally over come his mental illness and be with Jace.

I agree with Annie and Stephanie about Chloe's prom dress. I think it does represents her well because shes a simple girl that don't like all the attention from people. Unlike Laura buying an expensive dress that make her stand out Laura bought a simple cheap dress that just represents herself. She doesn't care what people think and she don't need to impress any guy like how Laura has to impress Mike. Chloe just want to be herself. Even though herself isnt exactly perfect, but Chloe is a typical teenage girl that aren't perfect.

"Mike and Daniel repeatedly got up and went to the restroom. It occured to Laura that they were doing cocaine but she didn't feel any desire to investigate. Also, Marianne and Christine were sneaking something into their Sprites."

After reading this I got the feeling as if Laura did not belong. I just wanted to ask if anyone found it strange how Laura had no real reaction to the events going on around her, and how it didn't really bother her?

"Her plastic hair barrette was gone, her purse was gone, her hair hung off her like a sea-hag."

As Annie said in an earlier blog, Chloe's barrette was her security. When she lost it at prom, it was almost as if she finally was able to move on and break free of her old identity.

After completing the book, I just wanted to see what everyone's thoughts on it were.

Rate it from 1 to 10 (10 being the highest)
and give a reason why.

I would give it a 9.
It was a fast read, at times I could not put it down, and the only downfall that I found with it was that the ending was a bit of a disapointment.

To answer Danielle question i did think it was strange that Laura didn't bother about caring about the things that was happening around. The only reason I that is because I felt as though Laura is just to tired about wanting to impress every and satisfy everyone needs. She is like an elastic limit once its there too much thing pulling on the elastic it just breaks. She just had too much going on before the prom that she is too tired to worry about it now.

"Her plastic hair barrette was gone, her purse was gone, her hair hung off her like a sea-hag." (page 249)

It seem as thought Chloe finally became more mature and can let go of the past. Losing the barrette made it seem as though Chloe can be free of a baggage that she been carry on for so long. A baggage that was stopping her to live her life and be her real self.

What do you guys think about Chloe losing her barrette?

From 1-10 i think i would rate the book a 8-9 because it relates to things that happens in typical teenage girl's lives. Also it had something that made me wanting to keep reading to see what going to happen next to each of the girl's life. It a book that was obstacles for teenage girl go through.

I think Chloe has fell into her own place in the world. She became Chloe, the girl who does not follow the status quo. She may be quirky and eccentric, but she is herself. Before prom and before Zach, Chloe seemed to be ashamed of the person she was, she wanted to keep it hidden from her peers. She seems to shed the feelings of trying to fit in like being drunk at the party. Now she is just her self, but more comfortale in her skin.

To danielles question about Laura not reacting to Mike doing coke . .
I think Laura just tried to have a perfect prom, but when she saw how her relationship with Mike was changing before her eyes, she seemed to be oblivious to all that was going on around her. Ever since she made Mike try on his tux a thousand times she felt like her love life was falling apart.

"She looked up to tell Mike, but stopped short when she saw his face in the mirror. His expression shocked her. He was shaking his head, a look of utter disgust and exasperation on his face. He hated her. She saw it. He was sick of her, he didnt like her anymore . . It was all there, in his face, clear as day."
This made Laura realize it was slowly unwraveling and I think she didnt react because she was numb to everything around her. All Laura wanted was the perfect prom, but she didnt get it.
